Voter turnout steady in cities across South Mississippi

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX)- There is a festive atmosphere outside the D'Iberville Civic Center on this city election day. That's because everyone in the city votes at this one location.

Consequently, all the candidates and their representatives wave signs and do some last minute campaigning outside the polling place. Hundreds of colorful campaign signs compete for voters' attention.

That's where we also found Mayor Rusty Quave campaigning, along with his two opponents, Jimmy Nichols and Travis Burke.

Attorney general warns against Facebook dangers

BILOXI, MS (WLOX)- You can learn all sorts of things by logging onto Facebook, from where people live to what they are doing or even thinking.

"Most people my age, 50 or older, they think a lot of privacy," Attorney General Jim Hood said. "But younger people don't seem to mind people knowing their business, which is fine, but there are dangers that go along with that."

Hood has teamed up with Facebook to educate both parents and children about Facebook safety and privacy. He said the most prevalent problem for teens on social media is bullying.

WLOX Editorial: St. Jude Children's Hospital worth supporting

By now, you have heard us talk quite a bit about the St Jude Dream Home that will be given away in a drawing on Sunday.  I wanted to take a moment to tell you why we at WLOX partnered with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for this project.

It's the work they do for kids. The money raised for St. Jude goes to research, treatment and care of sick children. Thanks to donors, no family ever pays St. Jude for anything.
