Mother and daughter need 500 signatures

South Mississippi residents Michelle Grinder and her daughter Sofie were both diagnosed with epilepsy. Michelle was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of two her daughter was diagnosed at the age of 10.

"A girl I knew in high school wasn't allowed to ride on a bus to a band competition because of her epilepsy," Michelle Grinder said. "That opens the door to social isolation as others learn of her sickness.

The 4th Annual Walk for Autism Awareness kicks off April 28, 2012 at Camp Wilkes.

Registration for the walk begins at 8:30 a.m. and will start at 10 a.m.

This event will include:

Walking Trails

Activities

Fishing for kids

The event is sponsored by TEAAM AND TEAAM Gulf Coast, Gulf Coast Rehabilitation and Camp Wilkes Inc.

All proceeds will go towards Kamp Kaleidoscope, a Summer camp for children and teens with an autism spectrum disorder.

SRHS searching for cancer survivors

Singing River Health System:

PASCAGOULA, Miss. – Singing River Health System (SRHS) Regional Cancer Center is recruiting cancer survivors for a new program to help make the transition from active treatment to post-treatment care.  Developed by the Cancer Support Community and LIVESTRONG, the program was created to bridge the gap between cancer treatment and life following cancer. 

This is an important health care gap because according to a 2007 Institute of Medicine report, the 12 million cancer survivors in the U.S.

Memorial Hospital Designated as Level II Trauma Center

Memorial Hospital - A Trauma Center Survey Team for the Mississippi State Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services and Trauma System Development assessed Memorial Hospital to become a designated Level II Trauma Center.

As a Level II Trauma Center, Memorial provides initial care to severely injured patients utilizing a full range of trauma capabilities, including emergency department, full service surgical suite, intensive care unit, and diagnostic imaging.

Memorial is the only Level II Trauma Center in Harrison and Hancock counties.
