The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting at St. Luke Outreach Center in Pascagoula on April 27. Friends, family and local businesses gathered to celebrate the event.

St. Luke Outreach is located at 2003 Jackson Avenue, Pascagoula.

Hancock Middle School hosted 12th Annual Share Fair

Hancock Middle School recently hosted its 12th annual Share Fair. Over 40 business and community leaders shared their careers with the students in grades 6 through 8.

The purpose of the program is to inspire the students and share information about various careers.

Presenters share their background, their education and why they chose their field of study. The program helps students focus on the future and value the school work that they are currently doing that prepares them for that future.

Kohl’s is honoring more than 2,200 youth, ages six to 18, who have made a positive impact on their communities with more than $420,000 in scholarships and prizes; top winners receive $10,000 each.

The Kohl’s Department Stores (NYSE: KSS) Kohl’s Cares® Scholarship Program will award more than $420,000 in scholarships and prizes, ranging from $50 Kohl’s gift cards to $10,000 scholarships, to more than 2,200 young volunteers who have made a positive impact on their communities. Nominations for kids ages six to 18 will be accepted February 1 – March 15 at kohlskids.com.

NASA's J-2X engine kicks off 2012 with powerpack testing

BAY ST. LOUIS – A new series of tests on the engine that will help carry humans to deep space will begin next week at NASA’s Stennis Space Center in southern Mississippi. The tests on the J-2X engine bring NASA one step closer to the first human-rated liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen rocket engine to be developed in 40 years.

Tests will focus on the powerpack for the J-2X. This highly efficient and versatile advanced rocket engine is being designed to power the upper stage of NASA's Space Launch System, a new heavy-lift launch vehicle capable of missions beyond low-Earth orbit.
